PLAINVIEW — Wayland Baptist University is inviting the community to join faculty, staff, students and friends of the university for a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Wayland Prayer Garden at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Brown Family Conference Center.
The garden, which will be located just east of the conference center, is designed to provide a quiet place for prayer and reflection on the Plainview campus. Plans incorporate native, drought-tolerant plants and water-conserving landscape features to create a peaceful and sustainable greenspace.
“The Wayland Prayer Garden will give our campus and our community a place to step away from the busyness of life, spend time with God and simply be still,” said Donna Hedgepath, president of Wayland Baptist
University. “We hope it will become a meaningful place for prayer in times of celebration, in times when guidance is needed and in the ordinary moments when we simply need to draw near to the Lord.”
The groundbreaking program will include comments about the vision for the garden, an overview of its design and construction timeline, the ceremonial groundbreaking, and a prayer of blessing and dedication. Hedgepath will welcome guests, and Donnie Brown, director of Spiritual Life, will offer the dedication prayer.
The Prayer Garden is being made possible through gifts from Wayland’s Sally Society, Ralph and Betty Boone, and a special grant from the High Plains Underground Water District.
The groundbreaking is open to the public.
