The Texas Tech football team finds itself in historic territory entering the 2026 season.
Coming off the first Big 12 Conference championship in program history, the Red Raiders have reloaded for another go at it, trying to get back to the College Football Playoff. Coaches around the country expect them to do just that.
The US LBM Coaches poll was released Tuesday and it sees the Red Raiders ranked 12th in the country, the team's highest preseason ranking ever. It's just the sixth time Texas Tech has been ranked in the preseason poll, with three occurrences in the last four seasons. The previous high for a preseason ranking was the 2008 team, which came in 14th.
Texas Tech is
the highest-ranked Big 12 team in the poll. The Top 25 also includes BYU (15), Utah (21) and Houston (24). The Red Raiders were eighth in the final coaches poll of the 2025 season.
