Here's a look at the best high school football games in the Lubbock area in Week 7.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Tulia (3-3) at Olton (6-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Memorial Stadium
It's been a hot start for Olton, but it won't mean much if the streak ends now.
The Mustangs are off to their best start in more than 30 years after beating Sundown 33-14 last week. A move to 7-0 would be their most significant development since district play has arrived.
Olton has gotten it done with defense, pitching three shutouts thus far. The team is fifth in the state across all classifications with 5.2 points allowed per game. That's No. 1 in Class 2A Division I. The Roughnecks' 14 points were the most given up this season.
Tulia will look to spoil the party. Under first-year coach Trevor Cordova, the Hornets have already matched
their highest win total since 2021. The team has twice scored more than 50 points and averages 31.8 per game.
There's a stark contrast in the opponents Tulia has beaten and lost to. The Hornets' wins are against teams 3-15 combined, while the losses came against opponents who are 9-8. Tulia has lost consecutive contests, including 48-14 at New Home (3-3) last week.
Olton's dominance has made it the sizable favorite to win District 2-2A D-I. The Mustangs are favored by at least 11 points in all their district games, according to Pigskin Prep.
It's up to Olton to see if the projections come true.
Week 7 games to watch for Lubbock area
Estacado (6-0) at Perryton (4-2)
7 p.m. Friday, Ranger Field
Last week: Estacado 40, Andrews 10; Perryton 35, Childress 31
The Matadors make a long road trip for the district opener against a solid Rangers team.
Hale Center (4-2) at Farwell (1-5)
7 p.m. Friday, W.M. Roberts Stadium
Last week: Iraan 41, Hale Center 6; Wink 48, Farwell 0
Don't let the records fool you, this is a matchup for playoff seeding.
Westbrook (2-3) at Klondike (3-2)
7 p.m. Friday, Cougar Stadium
Last week: Both teams open
In a district with Borden County and Sands, the loser here will be in a deep hole in the playoff race.
Monterey (3-2, 2-0) at Amarillo High (4-1, 2-0)
7 p.m. Thursday, Dick Bivins Stadium
Last week: Monterey 49, Frenship Memorial 17; Amarillo 45, Amarillo Tascosa 20
The Golden Sandstorm look like the district favorite, but Monterey is playing its best ball of the season.
Muleshoe (1-5) at Littlefield (5-1)
7 p.m. Friday, Wildcat Stadium
Last week: Muleshoe 27, Denver City 23; Littlefield 21, Dimmitt 20
The Mules got their first win just ahead of this rivalry clash. Records don't always matter in this matchup, either.
