WOODROW — The Lubbock-Cooper Liberty football team waited a long time for Friday.
After consecutive losses to Midland Greenwood the past two seasons, Liberty got its revenge in emphatic fashion with a 56-25
win at Patriot Stadium. The result moves the sixth-ranked Patriots to 3-0.
Here's how it went down.
Liberty strikes early and often
Liberty had little trouble taking its opening drive for a touchdown, Talon Wilcox's first of three. The Patriots then caught the Rangers off-guard and recovered an onside kick. Wilcox capped the possession with another score, and the rout was on.
Liberty led 42-8 at halftime.
Liberty takes advantage of Greenwood miscues
Greenwood (2-1) moved the ball early, but turnovers limited their output. The Rangers gave the ball away three times in Liberty territory before halftime. Two turnovers were in the red zone, highlighted by Luke Livingston's 95-yard interception return TD 30 seconds before the break.
Livingston corralled a batted throw near the line of scrimmage and had just enough gas to reach the end zone.
Liberty football off to dominant start
The Patriots have won all three contests this season by at least 31 points. All have been bigger opponents, too.
Such will be the case until district play.
Class 4A Division I Greenwood was the closest to Liberty's weight class, after wins over 5A D-I's Frenship Memorial and Frenship. The Patriots travel to Canyon West Plains next week, followed by Plainview and Dumas — three 4A D-I teams.
Liberty, in its third varsity season, started 5-0 in 2025, before a loss at Greenwood. Anything better this year would be the program's best.
The Patriots are the highest-ranked team in Region I-4A D-II, ahead of No. 7 Brock and No. 10 Graham.
