Expect to see some "unusual items" when the Miniaturists of Lubbockhost their 47th Annual Exhibit & Sale Oct. 3 and 4 at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 4600 48th St.
Doors will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, with $4 admission for adults and $1 for children. Gusts are asked to use the north, 47th Street entrance. All proceeds will benefit Lubbock Habitat for Humanity.
This year's event will feature a Christmas post office raffle prize, according to group member Melonie Miles.
There will be door prizes, an “I Spy” game for kids as well as the raffle.
"We will also have several independent vendors who will have miniature items available for purchase," Miles said.
She said members enjoy building doll houses and small
room boxes. They work in several different scales. The most common scale is 1 inch in miniature, which equals 1 foot in real life. We work in 1/2 inch, 1/4 inch, and 1/44 inch scales.
Miles said the group has been in existence for 47 years.
"Each year, we try to add a bit of uniqueness to our projects by selecting a different theme or twist," she said. "This year, instead of a traditional house or room box, we are attempting to make miniature displays in unusual items. I know, for me, this has proven to be a bit more challenging because of the shape of the container that I’ve chosen."

She said the group meets once a month for a short business meeting and then to work on a small project.
"We have a wide variety of skill levels and each person brings a unique perspective," she said. "Some of the projects we have worked on at our meetings include resin, hats, school supplies, Christmas ornaments and hobby horses."

During the weekend event, visitors will be able to view a wide variety of miniatures in different styles and scales, as well as shop vendors. There will also be door prize drawings.
Miles said the group chooses a local charity or non-profit to support every year, and believes Habitat for Humanity is fitting for the Miniaturists' event this year.
"We believe this is especially appropriate because they build houses just like we do," Miles said.
