Here's a look at the best high school football games in the Lubbock area in Week 3.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Midland Greenwood (2-0) at Lubbock-Cooper Liberty (2-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Patriot Stadium
Midland Greenwood spoiled the biggest non-district game in Lubbock-Cooper Liberty history.
It's a two-year history, but the fact remains.
The Patriots were riding high at 5-0 last season when the Rangers sent them home with a 34-14 setback. Greenwood finished as a 13-1 regional finalist.
There's no longer possibility of a postseason encounter, so Friday will be Liberty's only chance of revenge.
The Patriots enter off a dominant 44-13 win over Class 5A Division I Frenship. Liberty recorded 11 sacks, led by Rylan Thomas' seven. The team moved up to No. 6 in the latest 4A D-II rankings Monday.
Greenwood, which grew to 4A D-I this alignment,
graduated most of its 2025 team but hasn't missed a beat. The Rangers are allowing 14.5 points per game after last week's 25-15 win over Lubbock-Cooper. It will take a herculean effort to maintain that. The Patriots are averaging 46.5 points.
Week 3 games to watch for Lubbock area
Shallowater (2-0) at Canadian (2-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Wildcat Stadium
Last week: Shallowater 52, Seminole 44; Canadian 27, Bushland 17
The Mustangs have beaten Canadian in consecutive years. The 2025 result accounted for half of the Wildcats' losses.
Levelland (2-0) at Idalou (2-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Taylor/Reddell Field
Last week: Levelland 37, Fort Stockton 6; Idalou 34, Monahans 14
The Lobos are 2-0 for the first time since 2016. Beating Idalou would be a feather in their cap.
Seminole (1-1) at Canyon West Plains (1-1)
7 p.m. Friday, Happy State Bank Stadium
Last week: Shallowater 52, Seminole 44; West Plains 48, Frenship Memorial 14
Seminole and the Wolves have played some memorable games. This will mark the fifth consecutive meeting since West Plains opened in 2022.
Slaton (1-1) at New Deal (2-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Noland Stadium
Last week: Lubbock Christian 45, Slaton 28; New Deal 27, Roosevelt 0
Looking to bounce back, the Tigers will be New Deal's toughest test to date.
Abilene Wylie (1-1) at Frenship (1-1)
7 p.m. Friday, Peoples Bank Stadium
Last week: Wylie 49, Monterey 3; Lubbock-Cooper Liberty 44, Frenship 13
