The latest legal moves have once again put the Texas Tech basketball team's 2026-27 roster in question with two-plus months to go until the season opener.
The Tenth Circuit court in Colorado granted the NCAA a stay in the Wisne vs. NCAA decision on Friday. This means the previous blanket eligibility for members of the 2022 high school class is now on hold.
This impacts the Red Raiders, though not significantly right now. Donovan Atwell, who's return was formalized by Texas Tech last week, is currently the only recent signee to have his eligibility put on hold.
Meanwhile, Darrion Williams and Jamichael Stillwell are unaffected by this as they have each earned injunctions in other locales to earn their fifth year of eligibility. Stillwell earned his in Georgia
while Williams added himself to a suit to McLennan County, doing so after the Colorado ruling to give himself an extra layer of protection.
The battle is hardly over as the NCAA's full appeal of the case in Colorado is still being heard. A decision in that matter will come later. Elsewhere, 2022 athletes are filing more injunctions throughout the country. Atwell and Williams first filed in the state of North Carolina before removing themselves in light of the Colorado decision. Atwell can still refile somewhere else.
