Here's a look at the best high school football games in the Lubbock area in Week 6:
GAME OF THE WEEK
Littlefield (4-1) at Dimmitt (5-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Bobcat Stadium
These teams are ending non-district with a bang.
Dimmitt and Littlefield each start their respective district slates next week, and they'll get a stiff test to round things out. For the Bobcats, it will be the toughest opponent they've seen.
Dimmitt took down Denver City 48-30 last week to remain unbeaten. The 2-3 Mustangs have the most wins anyone the Bobcats have played to this point. The other four opponents are 1-19 combined.
Dimmitt has gotten it done with an offense that averages 51.4 points, which is fourth-best in Class 3A Division II.
Littlefield isn't far behind at 44.2 points per game. The Wildcats were rolling until a 64-36
setback to Levelland last week. The Lobos were two points shy of the total Littlefield had allowed on defense through four games (16.5 points on average).
The Wildcats will look to right the ship before opening District 2-3A D-II play the following week against rival Muleshoe.
Week 6 games to watch for Lubbock area
Vernon (3-2) at Idalou (5-0)
7 p.m. Thursday, Taylor/Reddell Field
Last week: Vernon 17, Iowa Park 0; Idalou 46, Shallowater 35
The Wildcats will look to close a tough non-district schedule unbeaten.
Frenship Memorial (1-3, 0-1) at Monterey (2-2, 1-0)
7 p.m. Thursday, Lowrey Field
Last week: Amarillo High 59, Memorial 21; Monterey 24, Amarillo Caprock 0
With quarterback Jonah Reed back from injury, the Plainsmen are trending upward after picking up their first win since August. The Panthers can't afford an 0-2 district start if they plan on making the playoffs.
Slaton (3-2) at Bushland (3-2)
7 p.m. Friday, Falcon Stadium
Last week: Slaton 63, Trinity Christian 6; Bushland 62, Hereford 21
The Tigers have gotten on track with consecutive wins. Can they keep the streak going against a tough opponent?
Hale Center (4-1) vs. Iraan (3-2)
7 p.m. Thursday, Mustang Bowl, Andrews
Last week: Hale Center 48, Clarendon 26; Iraan 34, Tahoka 19
We'll learn a lot about the Owls this week in their final tune-up before district.
Lubbock Christian (3-1) at Trinity Christian (1-4)
7 p.m. Friday, Archie Warwick Memorial Stadium
Last week: Lubbock Christian, open; Slaton 63, Trinity 6
It's a mismatch on paper, but there should be plenty of excitement as these rivals meet in football for the first time since 2021. Plus, it's the district opener.
