It was an entertaining weekend for Big 12 Conference football teams where we have to ask the question: Is anybody actually good?
Watching the rest of the nation, it seems the answer is layered. There may be no elite teams in the league, but there's a grouping of quality squads that are going to jostle for position in the power rankings the rest of the season.
1. BYU (3-0, 1-0)
Last week: 1
This week: at TCU (2-2, 0-1)
What to know: Nothing better off an open date than getting the worst team in the conference on the road.
2. Texas Tech (4-0, 1-0)
Last week: 2, def. Sam Houston 49-14
This week: at Colorado (2-2, 0-1)
What to know: Not super impressed by the Red Raiders right now, but haven't been impressed by anyone, so they stay firm.
3. Houston (3-1, 0-1)
Last week: 4, def. Georgia Southern 42-28
This week: vs. UCF
(3-1, 1-0)
What to know: Cougars can stack some conference wins before their next real challenge comes along.
4. Oklahoma State (3-1, 1-0)
Last week: 9, def. West Virginia 41-24
This week: Open
What to know: There may not be a more dangerous team in the Big 12 than Oklahoma State, which controls its own destiny at this point.
5. Arizona (3-1, 0-1)
Last week: 5, def. Washington State 34-24
This week: vs. Cincinnati (4-0, 1-0)
What to know: Overcame sloppiness against Wazzu and their next game has become far more interesting than it was before.
6. Utah (4-0, 0-1)
Last week: 7, def. Iowa State 31-17
This week: Open
What to know: Still gonna be a month until we figure out if the Utes are legit good or fake good.
7. West Virginia (3-1, 0-1)
Last week: 6, lost to Oklahoma State 41-24
This week: at Iowa State (2-2, 0-1)
What to know: OSU turned Michael Hawkins Jr. into a passer in the second half and ran away with it. Take notes, Big 12.
8. Cincinnati (4-0, 1-0)
Last week: 12, def. Kansas State 31-26
This week: at Arizona (3-1, 0-1)
What to know: Not buying stock, but the Bearcats officially have our attention for now.
9. Kansas State (3-1, 0-1)
Last week: 3, lost 31-26 at Cincinnati
This week: Open
What to know: Wildcats have a week to figure out the trenches. That may not be long enough.
10. Arizona State (2-1, 1-0)
Last week: 8, Open
This week: vs. Baylor (3-1, 1-0)
What to know: How much of the Sun Devils' performance in London was reality and how much was too many fish and chips?
11. Baylor (3-1, 1-0)
Last week: 10, def. Colorado 23-13
This week: at Arizona State (2-1, 1-0)
What to know: Winning ugly is still a win, but doesn't earn you points in the power rankings.
12. Iowa State (2-2, 0-1)
Last week: 11, lost to Utah 31-17
This week: vs. West Virginia (3-1, 0-1)
What to know: The Cyclones are stingy enough to knock somebody off unexpectedly. That might be this week.
13. UCF (3-1, 1-0)
Last week: 16, def. TCU 21-13
This week: at Houston (3-1, 1-0)
What to know: Knights are about to come crashing to reality with Houston, Oklahoma State and BYU on deck.
14. Kansas (1-2, 0-1)
Last week: 15, open
This week: vs. Middle Tennessee (2-2, 0-1)
What to know: Jayhawks have to win five of their final nine to make a bowl game. They're not making a bowl game.
15. TCU (2-2, 0-1)
Last week: 12, lost 21-13 to UCF
This week: vs. BYU (3-0, 1-0)
What to know: The Horned Frogs have scored 23 points in two games against power-conference competition this season. Woof.
16. Colorado (2-2, 0-1)
Last week: 14, lost 23-13 to Baylor
This week: vs. Texas Tech (4-0, 1-0)
What to know: Were the players Coach Prime kicked off the team the ones with the talent?
