DeCicco & Sons will open its highly anticipated Greenwich, Connecticut, grocery store in September 2026, a spokesperson confirmed.
The location, at 21 Glenville St. in Greenwich's Glenville area, is close to Westchester County's border and a short drive from some Westchester areas, such as Rye Brook and Purchase.
An exact date should come soon, the spokesperson said in an email to The Journal News/lohud.com on Aug. 27.
Greenwich marks DeCicco & Sons' first store in another state.
Anticipation has been building around the opening, which was expected in August or September. Greenwich's top elected official, First Selectman Fred Camillo, said in an Aug. 21 post on the town's website that he had been in contact with DeCicco & Sons and the expectation
was the store will open within three weeks.
DeCicco & Sons said in an email earlier this week that "all required paperwork has been submitted by both the property owner and our company, and all outstanding items have been fully addressed, submitted, and reviewed. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone involved for their support in bringing our supermarket to Greenwich. We are eagerly awaiting the final green light and look forward to opening our doors to the community soon!"
DeCicco & Sons has multiple Westchester locations, with its most recent opening in Sleepy Hollow. It has a store, in Armonk, that is to Greenwich's immediate north. There is also a store in Putnam County's Brewster.
Greenwich is large compared to Westchester towns and villages — more than 67 square miles and with 65,000 residents — and is among the nation's wealthiest localities. It's made up of several sizeable sections and includes among grocery stores an Aldi, a Whole Foods, a Citarella Gourmet Market (whose other locations include New York City and the Hamptons on Long Island's East End), a Stop & Shop, and a Balducci's.
"I know people are very eager to see this store open and I am one of them. "It is so important to have a grocery store on the western side of Town," Camillo said of the DeCicco & Sons in the Aug. 21 posting.
Like Westchester, Connecticut's Fairfield County has a number of affluent towns, besides Greenwich, such as Darien, New Canaan and Westport. The county has several Whole Foods stores, a Wegmans that opened in Norwalk, two Stew Leonard's locations — in Norwalk and Danbury – Trader Joe's stores, as well as ShopRites, Stop & Shops, and more.
