What is the story about?
Westchester's health department said it's closed several Mamaroneck, New Rochelle and Rye beaches for Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 4 and 5, because of 1.76 inches of rainfall over the past 24 hours.
Read on to see which beaches are closed, and when they may reopen.
Which Westchester beaches are closed?
The following locations are closed due to bacterial contamination from road runoff into drainage outfalls near the beaches:
- Mamaroneck: Harbor Island Park, Beach Point Club, Orienta Beach Club, and Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club
- New Rochelle: Hudson Park Beach, Davenport Beach Club, Greentree Country Club, and Surf Club on the Sound
- Rye: Coveleigh Club
The health department advises people to avoid the water at those beaches. The beaches will be allowed to reopen on Aug. 6 unless there is more significant rain.
