A New Rochelle man is facing allegations that he hit his daughter with a belt while she was visiting him and that he also seriously injured a puppy, police said.
Xavier Sanchez, 35, was arrested Oct. 16 on charges of second-degree assault, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child and torturing or injuring animals, both misdemeanors.
That day, detectives went to Sanchez' Garden Street building to investigate a report that he had hit his daughter with a belt during a sleepover there in September, according to a police news release Tuesday, Oct. 20.
While interviewing neighbors they heard a dog yelping in Sanchez' apartment. They went to check on it and found a Cane Corso puppy bleeding from the ears with bruising and swelling on its face,
according to the release.
The ASPCA advised police to take the dog to a veterinary facility in Greenburgh where it was being treated.
Sanchez appeared in court on Saturday and bail was set at $10,000 cash or $100,000 bond, according to state court records. He has since been released and is due back in City Court on Oct. 23.
