Connor McGinn left his job working in a kitchen in 2016 to start a pottery business and create custom dinnerware for restaurants.
Over the last decade, the 38-year-old ceramic artist has teamed up with chefs worldwide to craft a personalized line of dinnerware that serves the restaurant’s needs.
“I think what keeps me motivated is still the reason I started the business,” said McGinn, founder and owner of Connor McGinn Studios in Tarrytown. “It's that collaborative mindset of working with somebody else to kind of help their dream become a reality.”
When COVID closed restaurants, McGinn began selling his pieces online, which gave home chefs
a chance to purchase the handmade pieces. Once things opened up, the studio began holding in-person markets where the community could meet the makers and see the process.
“Amazon can't necessarily compete with us because we're not selling just the ability to hold food in a bowl ... we're selling the whole experience. The story, the individuals, the humans behind it,” said McGinn, who currently employs three artisans.
In celebration of this milestone, the studio is holding its biggest seconds and overstock sale on Aug. 15 and Aug. 16, 2026, at the studio, located at 84 Central Ave. in Tarrytown.
