Actress Selma Blair was arrested Sunday at John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens after allegedly injuring two flight attendants and a passenger aboard a Delta flight, authorities said.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said Blair, 54, was aboard Delta Flight 938 from Los Angeles to New York when she allegedly became “physically abusive” toward flight attendants and passengers and had to be restrained.
What happened aboard the Delta flight?
According to dispatch audio obtained by TMZ, paramedics were called to treat a flight attendant and a passenger for injuries, including a bloody nose and bite marks. Paramedics were also called for Blair, who reportedly “bashed her head on the bulkhead.”
TMZ also reported that Blair allegedly attempted to open the plane’s door
during the flight. After the plane landed, she allegedly kicked a Port Authority police officer and assaulted a nurse at the hospital.
Blair was arrested after the plane landed in New York and taken to a hospital for evaluation, along with two flight attendants who reported injuries, the Port Authority said.
What did Selma Blair's representative say?
Jill Fritzo, a representative for Blair, told USA TODAY that a “medical emergency” led to the alleged behavior aboard the flight. Blair was in stable condition, Fritzo said, without specifying the nature of the emergency.
Blair was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a chronic disease affecting the central nervous system, in 2018. She has since become a vocal advocate for people living with the condition.
Blair was charged with two counts of second-degree assault in Queens Criminal Court, according to USA TODAY. The FBI is also involved in the investigation.
What did Delta say about the incident?
A Delta spokesperson addressed the incident in a statement to USA TODAY.
“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson also said the airline was aware of reports that Blair attempted to open an aircraft door but could not corroborate that information at the time.
Selma Blair's 2016 incident aboard a flight
Blair was also involved in a disturbance aboard a Delta flight in 2016. She was removed from the flight on a stretcher at Los Angeles International Airport after a series of outbursts.
Blair later acknowledged mixing alcohol with medication in a public apology published by Vanity Fair.
“I made a big mistake yesterday,” Blair told the magazine. “After a lovely trip with my son and his Dad, I mixed alcohol with medication, and that caused me to black out and led me to say and do things that I deeply regret. My son was with his Dad asleep with his headphones on, so there is that saving grace.
“I take this very seriously, and I apologize to all of the passengers and crew that I disturbed and am thankful to all of the people who helped me in the aftermath,” she added. “I am a flawed human being who makes mistakes and am filled with shame over this incident. I am truly very sorry.”
