A 19-year-old Newburgh man died Tuesday after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a tree along the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Stony Point, according to New York State Police.
Driver dies after Palisades Parkway crash
New York State Park Police and state troopers assigned to the Haverstraw barracks responded at about 9:46 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, to a single-vehicle crash on the southbound Palisades Interstate Parkway near Exit 16.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2010 Toyota Corolla was traveling south near mile marker 31.3 when it left the roadway and entered the center median, where it struck a tree, police said.
It was raining at the time, and the roadway was wet. The circumstances that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway remain under investigation.
The driver and
sole occupant, identified as Christopher A. Rivera, 19, of Newburgh, was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.
Investigation ongoing
The investigation remains ongoing.
