Several of the local girls soccer team traveled upstate to compete, others participated in tournaments and crossover matchups, putting forth impressive performances in high-profile games as the season began last week. It also resulted in us having nine candidates for candidates for Girls Soccer Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital.
We'll compile a group of candidates each week and our readers will determine the winner. Coaches are encouraged to submit via email nominees from their teams whom they believe are deserving.
Read below about what the nominees accomplished last week, then cast your votes. The poll will be open until 3 p.m. Wednesday, and the winner will be featured on the lohud sports social media accounts.
Pilar Abdel-Aziz, White Plains
The goalie
was impressive even in defeat, making 14 saves in the Tigers' 2-1 loss to powerhouse Albertus Magnus last Friday in the teams' season opener. She also helped led White Plains in a 3-1 win over Hastings.
Chloe Angello, Tuckahoe
The goalkeeper made 12 saves in the Tigers' 2-0 win over Bronxville last Wednesday.
Amanda Bialek, Clarkstown North
The Pittsburgh commit, best known as a defensive stopper, scored three goals for the Rams in a win over Brewster on Saturday.
Camryn Cassese, Eastchester
The junior scored four goals to lead the Eagles in a dominant win over Suffern.
Charlotte Keenan, Rye
The senior scored twice in the Garnets' 3-2 win over Shenendehowa and she had an assist in their 2-0 win over St. Mary's in last weekend's Hall of Fame tournament at Niskayuna High School.
Kaylin Lobosco, Blind Brook
The freshman had an assist and her first varsity goal in the Trojans' 4-1 win over Section 2's Tamarac last Saturday. She followed that performance with two goals in their 8-3 win over Nichols of Buffalo on Sunday.
Julianna Povella, Hen Hud
The freshman scored three goals to lead the Sailors in a 5-2 win over Sleepy Hollow last Thursday.
Samantha Schultz, Pleasantville
The sophomore had three goals and an assist in the Panthers' 5-0 win over rival Briarcliff on Saturday, and she had two goals and an assist in a win over Westlake on Thursday.
Anabel Zihenni, Harrison
The Pepperdine-bound senior had three assists, leading the Huskies in a 5-1 win over Port Chester.
