We're once again opening each week of the football season by spotlighting some of the individuals who performed exceptionally well over the weekend. Take a look at what our finalists got done on the field, then vote for the lohud Football Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital.
The poll will remain open until Thursday at 3 p.m. and we'll feature the winner on lohud sports social media accounts.
Luke Foisset, Valhalla
The senior running back opened the season with 278 yards and five touchdowns on 26 carries in a win over Ardsley. He also caught two passes for 44 yards and a TD.
Jacob Larsen, Edgemont
The junior quarterback completed 15 of 24 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Irvington. He also ran for 82 yards and one TD.
Ryan LaRue, Mahopac
The senior
receiver and safety caught six passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns in an overtime loss to Minnisink Valley. He also had a timely pass breakup.
Tommy Mahoney, Pearl River
The senior running back led an offensive showcase, getting 14 carries for 188 yards and three touchdowns in a Little Brown Jug win over Nanuet.
Trey Newton, Iona Prep
The junior wideout caught three passes in his Gaels debut, finishing with 117 yards and three touchdowns in a win over CBA-Syracuse.
Will Ngbokoli, Hackley
The junior running back picked up 120 yards and three touchdowns on just 12 carries in a win over St. Dominic.
Jaxon Strickland, Clarkstown South
The senior tailback and linebacker carried eight times for 58 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Kennedy Catholic. He also made eight tackles, three for a loss.
Cameron Violante, Somers
The senior defensive back and wideout delivered six tackles, two interceptions and three pass breakups in a win over Mamaroneck. He also caught two passes for 52 yards.
Luke Zaccagnino, New Rochelle
The senior wide receiver and defensive back had eight receptions for 126 yards and one TD in a win over Kellenberg. He set up a walk-off field goal with a 15-yard catch and run, and delivered seven tackles, as well.
