An early-season nor'easter is expected to bring strong winds, heavy rain, coastal flooding and hazardous surf conditions to parts of New York through the weekend, prompting the National Weather Service to expand a Wind Advisory across the region.
The advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Sunday. Forecasters expect north winds of 20 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph.
The National Weather Service said gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects, bring down tree limbs and cause scattered power outages. Combined with periods of rain and coastal flooding, the storm could create hazardous travel conditions across parts of the region.

The National Weather Service expanded the advisory Friday morning
as the storm strengthened offshore.
Heavy rain, coastal flooding expected
Low pressure off the Mid-Atlantic coast is forecast to strengthen as it tracks north, bringing a prolonged period of rain and strong winds to the region. The National Weather Service has classified the system as an early-season nor'easter.
Rain is expected to increase Friday night and continue through Saturday night before gradually tapering Sunday.
Most areas are expected to receive 1 to 3 inches of rain. Central and eastern Long Island could see 3 to 4 inches, although totals will depend on the storm's track.
The National Weather Service has also issued coastal flood warnings for large portions of the coastline through Sunday. Forecasters said the greatest flooding impacts are expected Saturday and Sunday during high-tide cycles.
Long Island faces the highest risk for coastal flooding, beach erosion and dangerous surf conditions. A high risk of rip currents is expected along Atlantic-facing beaches through at least Saturday.

Cloudy with highs near 70 degrees. Winds will increase through the day, with rain developing Friday night.
Saturday
Periods of rain, at times heavy, are expected throughout the day. High temperatures will be near 62 degrees, with strong north winds and higher gusts possible.
Rain will continue Saturday night, with temperatures falling into the mid-50s.
Sunday
Rain and breezy conditions are expected to continue before gradually diminishing later in the day. Highs will be in the mid-60s as the storm slowly weakens and begins to move away from the region.
