A Scarsdale man accused of stabbing and beating his mother to death in their home told police who showed up that he tried to kill himself but didn't appear to talk at all about his mother or what had happened to her, according to court documents.
Chester Green, 27, pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and misdemeanor weapon charges Wednesday, Oct. 14, at his arraignment in Westchester County Court.
Police were called to the family home at 43 Brewster Road early on July 7 and found 71-year-old Marian Green dead inside. The widow's only child was outside the house and taken into custody.

According to the indictment, Green is accused of illegally possessing a machete, an axe and a kitchen knife that were found in the home, although authorities
have not said which they suspect were used to kill his mother.
For more than a decade Marian Green chaired the village’s Advisory Council for People with Disabilities and previously headed a committee of the Parent Teacher Council of Scarsdale Schools group that advocated for special needs students and their families, C.H.I.L.D., Children Having Individual Learning Differences.
According to court documents, outside the house and en route to White Plains Hospital Chester Green claimed he had tried to overdose on sleep pills and anti-seizure medication and had tried to hang himself with a belt or an extension cord.
As he was under watch by Scarsdale police over the next day at the hospital, their body-worn cameras captured hours of schmoozing with the officers and rambling comments about what was on the TV in the room, what food was available to him and his past depression and psychotic episodes but nothing about his mother, according to court documents.
Chester Green was at the hospital for a few days before being transfered to the Westchester County jail.
Defense lawyer James Tobin declined to make a bail application Wednesday and Green will remain at the jail. Westchester Judge Melissa Loehr scheduled his next court appearance for Dec. 2.
