Legendary former New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera will pitch "Mo's Heat," his collection of hot sauces, at Yonkers' Stew Leonard's grocery store on Friday, Oct. 9.
Rivera, a baseball Hall of Famer, is scheduled to appear at the store from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., a Stew Leonard's news release said.
People can get the chance to meet Rivera, take photos and sample the hot sauces, the release said. Fans who buy a $19.99 ticket via Eventbright get an event package that includes a three-pack of Major League Baseball-licensed Mo’s Heat Hot Sauce, access to a dedicated event check-in line, and a photo opportunity with Rivera. Packages are limited to one a customer, and ticket receipts must be presented at event check-in for pickup. Because of time constraints,
Rivera will be taking photos with package holders and won't be signing personal memorabilia or personalizing bottles, the release said. Tickets are nonrefundable.

The three varieties of Mo's Heat sauces carry names of of his most famous baseball pitches: the cutter, the curve and the sinker. Rivera was the Bronx Bombers' powerhouse closer — the pitcher who comes in late in a game to lock down the win. He famously walked out to the pitcher's mound to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.”
The cutter — Rivera's main pitch during his iconic Yankees career — is also the signature sauce, the release said. The sauce "starts smooth, then builds into a satisfying, lingering heat. Best paired with soups, pastas, meat, fish, shellfish, sandwiches, or even rice and pizza," the release said.
The curve is "bright and and herbaceous with a crisp but balanced heat from green habaneros. The freshest of the heats, it pairs well with all your favorite foods," the release said.
The sinker is "the most approachable sauce offering a richer and more rounded flavor, featuring fully ripened peppers with gradual heat and subtle sweetness." Pair it with meat, pastas, fish, shellfish, sandwiches or grilled vegetables.

The Journal News/lohud.com reported on Rivera debuting Mo's Heat sauces in May at Cingari Family Markets' ShopRite stores, largely in Connecticut's Fairfield County. In a news release ahead of the May event, Rivera said that “I spent my career bringing the heat on the mound, and now I’m proud to bring that same passion to the kitchen" and that “Mo’s Heat is a celebration of my roots in Puerto Caimito, Panama, my journey, and the flavors I grew up with.”
