They did it with a 4-2 win over the Chicago Cubs on Sept. 17, 1986 behind a 12-strikeout, complete game - you remember those - gem by Dwight Gooden.

Dave Magadan went 3-for-4 and knocked in two runs for the Mets.

It was the third division title for the Metropolitans and first since 1973.

And the celebrations just kept on going as they went on to beat the Houston Astros for the NL pennant and the Red Sox in the World Series.
