With no major upsets, this week's Journal News/lohud high school field hockey rankings include only a minor change with John Jay-East Fishkill joining the top 10.
Below find the listing.
Note: Records reflect games played through Oct. 4.
1. Mamaroneck (9-1) —The Tigers remain undefeated outside of one out-of-state loss in a national tournament The Tigers will be favored again this week but their games are far from a slam dunk. Mamaroneck will play John Jay-Cross River and undefeated Lakeland. With playoffs approaching, these games should benefit all three teams. Previously: 1
2. Lakeland (11-0) — The Hornets have three games this week. All eyes will be on their final game of the week, which will be against Mamaroneck. The Tigers will be favored
but this should be a very good, very tight game that might be decided by a single goal. Previously: 2
3. Yorktown (9-1) — The Huskers outscored their two opponents last week by a combined 13-0. This week likely won't prove as easy. The Huskers should be favored but are scheduled to play three times, including against White Plains, which fell only 2-0 to Mamaroneck, and against ranked Rye. Previously: 3
4. John Jay-Cross River (7-3) — The Wolves convincingly won their two games last week by shutout. They'll play another two this week, including facing their biggest test of the season in Mamaroneck. Previously: 4
5. Horace Greeley (9-2) — The Quakers may not be the same as the pre-injuries Quakers squad but this version recorded two shutouts last week. Greeley will be favored in its one game this week, facing improving Clarkstown. Previously: 5
6 .Rye (6-3) — The Garnets won their three games last week. This week their schedule gets tougher. They'll be favored against ranked White Plains but will be the underdog going to Yorktown. Previously: 6
7. White Plains (6-3) — The Tigers easily handled Scarsdale before falling just 2-0 to Mamaroneck. That score, while impressive, is somewhat misleading since the Tigers employed a largely defense-only strategy to try to slow Mamaroneck's potent offense. Still, many teams would have given up many more goals trying the same thing. The Tigers face a tough road this week with games vs. Rye and Yorktown. A win over either would be big. Previously: 7
8. Bronxville (8-2) — After three shutout wins last week, the Broncos have three on tap this week. The most interesting should be against North Salem, which has been stung of late by a few close, low-scoring losses and will be looking to rebound. Previously: 9
9. John Jay-East Fishkill (8-3) — After time on the bubble, the Patriots return to the top 10 after three nice wins last week. They have three games this week and will probably win two of them. Their other game is against No. 2 Lakeland. Previously: Not ranked
10. Somers (8-3) — The Tuskers just edged winless Fox Lane 1-0 and got routed by Greeley during a 2-1 week. They're still hanging on to a top-10 spot but, with Saturday's opponent, Pearl River, knocking on the door, Somers needs to win that game to ensure it keeps the slot. Previously: 8
On the bubble: Hackley (4-3-1), Pawling (7-3), Pearl River (9-1)
