One firefighter was injured Sunday after a fire broke out at the Hastings Tennis Club in Hastings-on-Hudson, Westchester County.
What happened at the Hastings Tennis Club?
Hastings-on-Hudson police and firefighters responded to the club around 11:11 a.m. Sunday for a structure fire, Mayor Tom Drake said in a statement posted to Facebook.
Drake said firefighters were already nearby investigating reports of a possible gas leak at another location when the fire broke out.
Hastings-on-Hudson Assistant Fire Chief John Linder said the fire started in a shed that housed equipment used to heat and inflate the club's tennis bubble.
As the fire spread, part of the inflatable plastic bubble began to melt, and heavy smoke filled the air near the Hudson River waterfront. The fire also damaged a nearby
building, according to the fire department.
Was anyone injured in the fire?
One firefighter was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. No civilian injuries were reported.
Fire departments from Hastings-on-Hudson, Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Irvington and Tarrytown responded, along with Greenburgh paramedics.
What caused the Hastings Tennis Club fire?
The Hastings-on-Hudson Fire Department said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A GoFundMe campaign created by a village resident suggested the fire may have been caused by a generator inside the electrical shed. That possible cause has not been confirmed by fire officials.
The fundraiser has raised over $11,400 as of Monday morning.
