A rare September nor'easter moved into New York on Saturday, disrupting air travel, forcing cancellations and prompting officials to warn of flooding, power outages and dangerous conditions through the weekend.
The National Weather Service warned of heavy rainfall, strong winds, coastal flooding and dangerous travel conditions as the storm impacted New York and neighboring states.
Yankees move game ahead of storm
The New York Yankees adjusted their final regular-season series because of the storm.
The team announced Thursday that Saturday's scheduled game against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium was postponed because of the forecast for sustained inclement weather. The game was moved to Friday as part of a single-admission doubleheader, according to a team announcement
from MLB and the Yankees.
As of Saturday morning, Sunday's 3:20 p.m. ET regular-season finale between the Orioles and Yankees remains on schedule.
Airport delays and travel disruptions
Air travel across the New York City region remained disrupted Saturday as the nor'easter hit the area. The Federal Aviation Administration reported departure delays of 16 to 30 minutes at John F. Kennedy International Airport and shorter gate-hold and taxi delays at LaGuardia Airport amid rain, low clouds and strong winds.
Reuters reported that major carriers, including American Airlines, JetBlue and United Airlines, issued travel waivers allowing eligible customers to change flights because of the storm.
State of emergency declared
New York officials urged residents to monitor forecasts and prepare for potentially hazardous conditions through the weekend.
New York declared states of emergency in areas expected to experience some of the storm's worst effects, including New York City, as officials warned of possible flooding, power outages and travel disruptions. Gov. Kathy Hochul urged residents to take the storm seriously as it moved through the state.
The National Weather Service warned that strong wind gusts could cause scattered power outages and make travel difficult in some locations.
Events canceled as storm arrives
The nor'easter prompted several event cancellations and schedule changes across the Northeast.
New York City's Global Citizen Festival in Central Park was canceled because of weather concerns. Other large outdoor events across the region were also called off amid forecasts for heavy rain, strong winds and flooding.

Forecasters continue to warn of periods of heavy rain, strong coastal winds and flooding concerns as the storm moves through the region.
The National Weather Service said the storm is expected to bring significant coastal impacts across parts of the Northeast, while AccuWeather forecasters warned of hazardous travel conditions, power outages and localized flooding.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, use caution while traveling and monitor the latest forecasts and alerts throughout the weekend.
