Delta Air Lines is permanently ending three nonstop routes from New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport while adding new service elsewhere as the airline adjusts its network.
The airline confirmed it will discontinue flights from JFK to Houston, Memphis and St. Louis after previously planning to restore the routes. At the same time, Delta is adding new service between Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, and Fort Myers, Florida, beginning Nov. 21.
Delta drops three JFK routes
According to The Points Guy, Delta suspended the three routes earlier this year as the airline adjusted operations amid higher fuel costs and changing travel demand.
On July 26, Delta confirmed the flights from JFK to Houston, Memphis and St. Louis would not return.
Delta expands service in the Southeast
The airline is adding a new
nonstop route between Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Fort Myers starting Nov. 21.
Delta has increasingly invested in Raleigh-Durham, which it designates as a "focus city" because of growing passenger demand. The airline has also announced additional service to Florida, including new flights from Boston to Orlando and Miami.
With the start of college football season approaching, Delta is also adding more than 40 Friday and Sunday nonstop flights to popular game-day destinations.
JFK remains a major Delta hub
Despite the route changes, JFK remains one of Delta's largest hubs.
As of late July, Delta serves more than 100 destinations from JFK, maintaining New York City as a key part of its domestic and international network.
