It was an eventful week, despite the schedule being shortened due to the holiday, and several of the top teams had impressive and/or important showings.
Rye scored two statement wins to remain at the top, Scarsdale moved up for the second straight week, and Lakeland and Byram Hills make their debut in the rankings this week.
Records are as of the morning of Sept. 15.
Boys soccer power rankings
1. Rye (3-0)
The Garnets have seemingly picked up where they left off toward the end of last season, rolling against Section 1 competition. Rye further established its standing last week, outscoring defending Class AA champion Harrison and Class AAA's Arlington by a combined 10-0. Last week: 1
2. New Rochelle (3-0)
The Huguenots opened the season with a big win over John Jay-East Fishkill, then dominated in victories
against Ossining and North Rockland. Last week: 2
3. John Jay-East Fishkill (1-2-2)
They've sputtered a bit out the gate and had a tough stretch, losing to Section 9's Newburgh in a rematch of the Class AAA regional and then tying Scarsdale and Ramapo. But the Patriots still are a talented and experienced team that should soon right the ship. Last week: 3
4. Harrison (2-1)
The Huskies rebounded from the loss to Rye with two straight wins, including Monday's 1-0 victory over Mahopac in a rematch of last year's section final. Last week: 4
5. Scarsdale (3-0-1)
The Raiders climb up a spot with recent performances that include a 2-2 draw with John Jay-East Fishkill and a lopsided win over Mount Vernon. Last week: 6
6. Mahopac (3-1)
The game could've gone either way, but an error proved costly in their 1-0 loss to Harrison on Monday. Last week: 5
7. Mamaroneck (2-0)
The Tigers have been idle for a week, but they'll be busy the next few days with three games, including a meeting Wednesday with rival White Plains. Last week: 7
8. Lakeland (5-0)
They've found different ways to win, including coming through in late-game situations and eking out 1-0 victories against Pearl River and Somers. Last week: N/R
9. Pleasantville (3-1)
The Panthers have won three straight, including a 3-0 victory over Blind Brook on Monday. Last week: 8
10. Byram Hills (3-0)
The Bobcats are again making the case for themselves as a contender in Class A, showing grit and defensive cohesion in close wins. They'll be tested this week against Fox Lane and Panas. Last week: N/R
