It was a weather-shortened but eventful slate of games last week, and this week opened with some results that precipitated movement in the ranking.
Mamaroneck continues its rise, going up a couple spots after beating Scarsdale and tying New Rochelle, Mahopac successfully defended its position with a big win over league rival Lakeland, and Eastchester earned its entry into the top 10.
Records are as of the morning of Sept. 29.
Boys soccer power rankings
1. Rye (8-0)
The Garnets secured two important victories last week, erupting offensively in the second half to beat a fast-charging Walter Panas team eager to establish itself among the Class A favorites, and then eking out another 1-0 win over rival Byram Hills. Rye has shown the ability to adapt and win in different ways. Last week:

2. New Rochelle (6-0-1)
The defending Section 1 Class AAA co-champs hit their first roadblock this season, playing to a 1-1 tie with Mamaroneck, an up-and-comer with its eyes on the throne. The Huguenots are stacked with talent, but they're getting into the defining (and busy) part of their schedule with games upcoming against Scarsdale, Port Chester and Mamaroneck. Last week: 2
3. Mamaroneck (7-0-1)
The Tigers have made quick jumps, hopscotching the hierarchy, and took additional steps in announcing themselves as a legitimate contender with a 2-0 win over Scarsdale and then a draw with New Rochelle. They've got five shutouts already, and are averaging 3.5 goals per game against a difficult schedule. Last week: 4
4. Scarsdale (5-1-1)
Their momentum was slowed a bit with the loss to Mamaroneck, but the Raiders immediately rebounded with a 4-0 win over a solid Port Chester team last week. Scarsdale will be favored in its games this week, setting up for a showdown next week with New Rochelle and a Mamaroneck rematch. Last week: 4
5. Harrison (6-1-1)
The Huskies pulled out a 1-0 win over Horace Greeley last week, but winless Yorktown rallied for a 2-2 tie against them on Monday. Harrison does have a good matchup ahead, facing an Eastchester team off to a great start. Last week: 3
6. Mahopac (6-1-1)
The Wolf Pac further validated their position here with a 3-0 win over previously undefeated Lakeland last week. Mahopac scored three minutes in and controlled possession for most of the match, highlighting the quality of their defense and midfield play. Last week: 6
7. Walter Panas (5-1-1)
The Panthers have some quality wins, including shutouts of Tappan Zee and Byram Hills, and they do get partial credit for challenging Rye and managing four goals against that defense. Their meeting with Mahopac on Wednesday sets up as one of the better matchups this week. Last week: 9
8. Lakeland (7-1)
The loss to Mahopac cost them a couple spots in this ranking, but it doesn't at all put a cap on the potential of this group. Especially considering that, dating back to last fall, it was only their second loss in 17 games. Last week: 7
9. Pleasantville (6-1-1)
Since playing to a dramatic tie with Briarcliff, the Panthers eked out a close win over a solid Irvington squad and blew out North Salem, the two-time defending Class C state champs. Last week: 9
10. Eastchester (6-0)
The Eagles make their debut in the ranking this week after an impressive stretch that included wins over Pelham, Fox Lane and Greeley. Eastchester has allowed only four goals thus far, and Daniel Juncaj and Peter Tsapatsaris have been consistent scorers. Last week: N/R
