2 killed in head-on crash on State Route 28 in Ulster County

Two men were killed in a two-vehicle crash Sunday on State Route 28 in Olive, Ulster County, according to New York State Police.

Head-on crash

A westbound vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane for unknown reasons and

struck an oncoming vehicle head-on at about 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, police said.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles.

Both drivers killed

Both drivers were treated at the scene and taken to area hospitals, where they died from their injuries, according to state police.

The eastbound driver was identified as Philip F. Jacobus, 72, of New York City. He was taken to HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston and later transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, where he was pronounced dead.

The westbound driver was identified as Peter B. Bonenfant, 19, of Smithtown in Suffolk County. He was taken to HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, where he was pronounced dead.
