A major fire destroyed a two-family home in New City early Saturday, displacing 12 people, according to fire officials.
Fire breaks out at New City home
Hillcrest Fire Company said firefighters responded to a fire at 1 W. Burda Place in New City at approximately 4:18 a.m. Saturday.
Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy fire at the back of the two-family home. Rockland County Fire Coordinator Chris Kear said the families inside were able to escape after someone who noticed the fire banged on the door to alert the residents.
About 45 firefighters from the Hillcrest, New City, Spring Valley and Nanuet fire departments spent more than an hour battling the blaze before it was knocked down.
Nanuet Emergency Medical Services and Clarkstown police also responded to assist residents.
12 people displaced, no injuries reported
No
injuries were reported, but the Red Cross of Greater New York said 12 people were displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire was not immediately available.
