Donations are being collected for the seven children of a Carmel couple involved in a crash on Route 6 last week that killed the father and seriously injured the mother.
Christopher "Cricky" Roche, 56, died from injuries sustained in the Oct. 2 crash near Sunset Boulevard and his wife Siobhan remains in critical condition, Carmel police said in a news release Wednesday, Oct. 7.
A GoFundMe page set up by Roche's friend Alan O'Cleirigh has raised more than $106,000 as of Thursday morning. O'Cleirigh called Roche "the absolute best dad, husband, son, brother, and friend anyone could ask for" and said the funds raised would be used for funeral expenses, medical costs for Siobhan and to support the couple's seven children.
"With his incredible sense
of humor, Christopher had a gift for bringing light and laughter into any room he walked into," O'Cleirigh wrote. "His sudden passing leaves an irreparable void in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him."
According to police, Roche's 2024 Dodge Ram went over a guardrail near 1332 Route 6 around 9 p.m. and landed on its side. The couple was extricated from the truck by Carmel firefighters. Christopher Roche was pronounced dead at the scene and his wife was flown by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash-cam footage of the area between 8:50 and 9:05 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, is asked to call Carmel police at 845-628-1300.
The couple had four girls and three boys. They celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in June.
Visitation for Christopher Roche is from 4 to 8 p.m. at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac.
