Hulu's newest hit show, filmed in New York City, will air its Season 1 finale Monday, Aug. 31.
"Furious," starring Emmy Rossum as Alice Black, a former NYPD officer turned FBI agent, has emerged as one of the summer's breakout shows.
Written and executive produced by Elizabeth Meriwether, the series follows Alice as she reunites with former NYPD colleague Danny Kelly, played by Scoot McNairy, to track a female serial killer named Catherine, played by Lola Petticrew.
Catherine targets powerful men connected to a child trafficking ring, setting up a cat-and-mouse pursuit that explores themes of power, abuse, trauma, corruption and the experiences of victims of violence.
Rossum, who also serves as a producer on the show, told USA Today that the show's
title draws inspiration from Greek mythology.
"The Furies were three angels of vengeance, and Medusa is mentioned as a woman who had been wronged and violated, so she became a villain," Rossum said in a USA Today interview.
The show's first season has generated significant online discussion, and Hulu renewed it for a second season ahead of Monday's finale, an uncommon move for a new series.
