New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was the subject of another look-alike contest Sunday, Aug. 30, drawing hundreds of people to the area around Washington Square Park to watch nine contestants compete for a $100 prize.
The contest, sponsored by social media app Sonder, featured men dressed to mimic Mamdani's distinctive style, from his suits and ties to his hairstyle and facial hair.
Who won the Mamdani look-alike contest?
Amadeo Fusca, a 40-year-old Manhattan comedian and actor who regularly impersonates Mamdani, won the contest.
Fusca wore a New York Knicks jersey under a suit, a nod to Mamdani's support for the team and its 2026 NBA championship. He also sported a haircut and facial hair similar to the mayor's.
One contestant went shirtless while wearing an apron, referencing Mamdani's
past as a rapper. Mamdani performed under the name Young Cardamom and later Mr. Cardamom before entering politics.
The contestants were asked one question: What is their favorite pizza? The crowd then determined the winner based on applause.
Another Mamdani look-alike contest
The event initially was planned for Washington Square Park, but police told organizers they needed a permit, so the contestants and crowd moved just outside the park for the competition.
It was the second known Mamdani look-alike contest. A similar event was held in Brooklyn in 2025, when Mamdani was campaigning for mayor.
