Nineteen castaways, including two contestants with New York ties, are continuing their quest to become the Sole Survivor and win at least $1 million Wednesday in Episode 3 of "Survivor 51."
The two tribes, Savu and Toka, will continue navigating the islands of Fiji while competing in challenges, searching for hidden immunity idols and preparing for whatever twists may come with the show's new "Open Era."
Here's what to know about this week's episode.
Who are the two New York contestants on 'Survivor 51'?
"Survivor 51" has two contestants with connections to New York.
The first is Mike Pinsky, 32, an assistant director of baseball operations for the New York Yankees. Pinsky was assigned to the Toka tribe, where he formed early connections with former WWE NXT wrestler Brady Booker and Maggie Nestor.
The
second is Ori Jean-Charles, 27, of Spring Valley, New York, a personal trainer. An early fan favorite, Jean-Charles formed close bonds with Devin Way, Angelica "Jelly" Loblack and Aaliyah Puglia, who was the first castaway eliminated this season.
Jean-Charles was separated from his alliance when he was assigned to the Savu tribe, but he quickly established himself as a reliable and strong member of the tribe. He also formed a new secret alliance with Sharonda Cox.
What will happen in Episode 3 of 'Survivor 51'?
Savu's decision to eliminate Ana Sani in Week 2 instead of the previously agreed-upon target, Eric Macksoud, has left some tribe members questioning the strength of their alliances and wondering what secrets are being kept.
According to a sneak peek of the episode posted by CBS, a castaway will make a shocking move following the dramatic Tribal Council.
The episode also will introduce a game-changing twist through the show's "Open Era," while two castaways will "secretly bond" in an attempt to change the outcome of the next Tribal Council.
The consequences of Rob Antonson's attempted save of Macksoud also could come to light. Antonson previously appeared to try to get himself voted out by making an unauthorized move involving his vote and his hidden immunity idol.
In Toka, tribe members also are questioning their alliances. A clip posted to "Survivor's" Instagram shows Danny "Kilby" Kilby being viewed as a potential "rat," with other members questioning whether he has betrayed the tribe.
Kilby's actions also are featured in an exclusive clip through TV Insider. In the clip, Kilby insults Brady Booker's intelligence, comparing him to playing a video game with a younger sibling whose controller is unplugged.
Booker was one of the main characters of Episode 2, when he sliced off part of his finger while cutting coconuts for his tribe.
As of Episode 2, Savu's Rob Antonson and Toka's Angelica "Jelly" Loblack are the only castaways who have found hidden immunity idols.
What is new in this season of 'Survivor'?
This season features a new theme called the "Open Era." Under the new format, any advantage or twist from previous seasons can come into play at any time, creating more unpredictable gameplay.
"Survivor" host Jeff Probst also revealed that the new theme could allow a coin toss like the one introduced in Season 50 to increase the total prize money to $2 million.
During the show, Probst explained that if a contestant loses the coin toss, the prize money still doubles but transfers to the next season. For example, contestants on Season 52 could compete for $2 million, while another coin toss could increase the final prize to $3 million.
When is the next 'Survivor' episode?
"Survivor 51" Episode 3, titled "What I'm Smellin' Is Stinky," airs Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. The episode is scheduled to run for 90 minutes.
