SPRING VALLEY — New York State Department of Transportation officials say a massive construction project that has shut down a busy stretch of Route 59 in this densely populated village is on track.
The project that shut Route 59 from New Clarkstown Road to around the Shell station to the west started June 3.
What is the impact of detours?
The entire roadway has been torn up to facilitate the rebuilding of the bridge that carries Route 59 over South Pascack Road.
Traffic has been tight along the detour, which for westbound travelers heads down Forman Road to South Pascack, then looping around Pipetown Road and South Central to get back on 59.
Those who are heading into the Airmont/Suffern area are advised
to skip 59 and use the New York State Thruway.
When will detours end and roads reopen?
The work was due to wrap up by Labor Day, which is Sept. 7 this year. Pillsworth said on July 29 that the end-date target remains the same.
Meanwhile, South Pascack Road, which was to be shut periodically during the project, is now detoured where it passes under 59, between Perlman Drive and Pipetown Hill Road. That stretch is expected to reopen by the end of October, Pillsworth said.
