A White Plains man was indicted on 13 charges stemming from the alleged strangulation and assault of his ex-girlfriend in Yonkers in June, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office.
Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace said Micah Jackson, 21, approached his ex-girlfriend near Nepperhan Avenue and Yonkers Avenue in Yonkers around 8:30 p.m. June 1. After she refused to speak with him, Jackson allegedly struck her in the face and put his hands around her neck.
Woman allegedly assaulted multiple times
The woman escaped and ran to her car, where she got into the backseat. Jackson allegedly took her keys, opened the door and continued striking her in the face.
She then escaped from the vehicle and entered a taxi. Jackson allegedly followed her into the cab
before they arrived at another nearby location.
The woman asked Jackson to return her car keys, and he allegedly charged at her, punched her in the face and strangled her until she lost consciousness, Cacace said.
Jackson allegedly left the scene in the woman's car and took her cellphones.
Jackson accused of violating protection order
Jackson was arrested June 5, and a temporary order of protection was issued against him, according to the district attorney's office.
Cacace said Jackson violated the order on June 14, June 15 and June 24.
The Yonkers Police Department's Domestic Violence Unit and the Westchester County District Attorney's Office Domestic Violence Bureau investigated the case.
Jackson was arraigned Aug. 25 before Westchester County Court Judge Susan Capeci on the following charges:
- Second-degree strangulation, a Class D felony
- Two counts of first-degree criminal contempt, Class E felonies
- Two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, Class E felonies
- Petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor
- Two counts of third-degree assault, Class A misdemeanors
- Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a Class A misdemeanor
- Second-degree criminal contempt, a Class A misdemeanor
- Three counts of second-degree harassment, violations
Jackson pleaded not guilty and was released from custody on $10,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to return to court Sept. 16.
Jackson has two other open cases
The Westchester County District Attorney's Office said Jackson has two additional open cases related to domestic violence in Yonkers.
