One of the most consistent things in the inconsistent world of high school sports is the area's year after year ability to produce, some of the state's top field hockey teams.
Last year, Mamaroneck fell just short of three-peating as state Class A champion. Horace Greeley fell a goal shy of advancing to the state Class B final after beating 13-time state champion Lakeland in the Section 1 playoffs.
One big reason behind all this success is outstanding coaching. But no one wins without outstanding players.
Below is a list of some of the area's best this year in both Section 1 and among private schools.
This list will be whittled later this week to an Elite 11, a forecast of just who might be, by season's end, the best of the best both locally and,
quite possibly, on a state level.
