More severe thunderstorms are possible across the New York City area Thursday, Sept. 3, after a rainy start to the week.
Showers are possible Thursday, with thunderstorms becoming more likely in the afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service forecasts a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5 p.m.
Additional rainfall could worsen flooding concerns after thunderstorms moved through the region Tuesday and Wednesday. Saturated soil and elevated water levels in low-lying areas could increase the risk of localized flooding.
Rain chances continue Friday afternoon before conditions are expected to improve heading into the Labor Day weekend.
