Section 1 took additional steps last fall toward a legitimate claim as the premier girls soccer region in New York. Bolstering that argument was four local teams advancing to at least the regional final, three of them reaching the state final, and two completing near-flawless seasons.
Rye went undefeated and captured its second Class A state championship in three seasons. Albertus Magnus made its way through a gauntlet of a non-league schedule, falling only to Rye, then went on to win the Class AA state title — its third in four years. Tuckahoe emerged as a small-school giant, charging to the Class C state final for the first time. It's likely that a handful of other area teams could've also made state tournament runs, had they been able to emerge from
a loaded Section 1 bracket.
The collective depth and dominance is a testament to coaching, youth development programs and a growing passion for soccer. It's also a nod to the wealth of high-level talent. With the 2026 season soon getting underway, we've highlighted more than 100 of the returning standouts, rising stars and players poised to break out this fall.
From this group of players from Westchester, Rockland and Putnam schools, the Journal News/lohud will later determine finalists for the Elite 11 and publish a writeup of the stars projected to shine brightest this fall.
