Strong thunderstorms moved across the Lower Hudson Valley on Monday, July 27 and Tuesday, July 28, bringing torrential rainfall and minor to moderate flooding to parts of the region. Some communities recorded over 4 inches of rain, according to reports compiled by the National Weather Service.
How much rain fell?
Putnam County saw the highest rainfall totals, with 4.36 inches reported in some areas. Parts of Rockland County received up to 3.88 inches, while rainfall totals in Westchester County generally ranged from about 1 to 2.55 inches.
In New York City, Staten Island received the most rain with 2.78 inches, while the rest of the boroughs received less than an inch. Long Island also saw almost 2 inches of rain in the last 24 hours.

Flood watch still in effect for Putnam, Westchester counties
A flood watch has been extended for Putnam and Westchester County through 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, as 1 to 2 more inches of rain could fall near Peekskill.
Flash flooding is already occurring in the area, so commuters should proceed with caution in roadways near bodies of water.
The strongest storms could produce rainfall rates of up to 2.5 inches per hour, increasing the risk of flooding on roads, in parking lots, basements, low-lying areas, and along rivers, creeks and streams.

Showers are likely throughout the day, with a chance of thunderstorms between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. High temperature near 77 degrees. Another half-inch or more of rain is possible, with localized flooding.
