Dashcam footage provided by AAA Carting to USA TODAY's New York Connect Team shows the top of the tractor-trailer striking the South Broadway Bridge before the truck overturns onto the highway.
Truck driver ticketed for over-height vehicle
A preliminary investigation corroborated the video, finding that the 2020 Mack tractor-trailer struck the South Broadway Bridge overpass before overturning.
The tractor-trailer then struck a 2025 Toyota sedan that was parked on the right shoulder. The Toyota driver was taken to Nyack
Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The tractor-trailer driver was not injured.
Police identified the driver as Pernell Harris, 50, of York, South Carolina. Harris was ticketed for operating an over-height vehicle.
The tractor-trailer is registered to Eastern Express Inc. of Indiana.
The crash remains under investigation.
South Broadway Bridge has been hit before

Monday's crash was not the first time an over-height tractor-trailer struck the South Broadway Bridge.
In late August 2023, a truck hit the bridge, resulting in a 16-hour road closure during subsequent repairs.
A 2024 investigation by The Journal News found that more than 85 Thruway bridges were scheduled to be replaced within the following decade at a cost of about $800 million.
The South Broadway Bridge was among those on the list, with replacement originally scheduled for completion by 2028.
The bridge has a clearance of 16 feet, 6 inches.
