The fatal crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, on the southbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 14.2 in Port Chester, State Police said.
Kamla K. Singh, 72, and Andrew Sookdeo, 40, both of Richmond Hill, Queens, were standing outside their vehicle after a previous minor collision when they were struck by a tractor-trailer traveling in the right lane, according to troopers.
Singh and Sookdeo were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred around dusk, about 20 minutes after sunset, according to timeanddate.com.
Investigation continues
The tractor-trailer driver remained at the scene and cooperated with State Police. No charges are expected at this time, troopers said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
