A Connecticut man was arrested after New York State Police said he was found naked and exhibiting signs of impairment at a Westchester County rest area.
Man found naked at rest area
State police said troopers responded to the Bedford Service Area on southbound Interstate 684 in Somers around 3:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, to investigate a report of public lewdness.
Troopers found Virgil J. Naveda, 56, of Darien, Connecticut, naked at the rest area. He was reportedly showing signs of impairment, according to police.
Naveda was administered standardized field sobriety tests and taken into custody.
Drugs found in vehicle
An inventory search of Naveda's vehicle after it was impounded uncovered approximately 66 grams of gamma-butyrolactone, or GBL; 49 grams of butanediol; 7 grams of methamphetamine;
and numerous items of drug paraphernalia, police said.
Naveda was charged with:
- Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class B felony
- Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor
- Three counts of Public lewdness, a Class B misdemeanor
- Operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor
When will Naveda return to court?
Naveda was arraigned in Bedford Town Court on Thursday, Sept. 24, troopers said. He was released on his own recognizance.
He is scheduled to return to court at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30.
