A fire ignited on Saturday night in the structure of the Dragon Coaster, the historic wooden rollercoaster that is the centerpiece of Rye Playland.
The park was not open at the time of the fire.
Westchester County officials confirmed the blaze and reported that it was quickly contained.

Former Westchester County Executive and current Democratic Congressman George Latimer, a longtime neighbor and advocate for the county-owned amusement park was on the scene with his wife to inspect the damage.
"It was a very small fire it was not at all damaging to the ride itself; no jeopardy of the ride being fully engulfed itself," Latimer said.

"There was some wood that was engaged but it was contained very quickly and very effectively,"
This is a developing story.
