A Pennsylvania woman is accused of fatally stabbing her husband and 3-year-old son at a family-oriented resort in the Pocono Mountains before attempting suicide, according to police.
Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, was charged with two counts of criminal homicide in connection with the deaths of her husband, Charles Harrison, and the couple's son at Great Wolf Lodge in Pocono Township, Pennsylvania, authorities said
.According to a criminal complaint obtained by the Pocono Record, part of the USA TODAY Network, and an official statement from Pocono Township police, Harrison called 911 at about 3:13 p.m. Oct. 12 and said she needed help dying and was unable to find a vein in her neck to stab.
When officers arrived, they found Harrison suffering from
wrist and neck injuries and discovered the bodies of her husband and son inside the room, the complaint states.
During the call, Harrison told the dispatcher her husband and son were "already gone." She also said the knives she was using were "not working" and that she was too weak to stab her neck, according to the complaint.
The complaint states that Charles Harrison suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest. The child appeared to have suffered a single stab wound to the chest. Both were found on separate mattresses on the floor of the room.
What investigators found at the resort
Resort staff told investigators the family checked in Sept. 21 and extended its stay through Oct. 13, according to the complaint.
Investigators recovered two knives that did not belong to the resort, along with several medication bottles and containers holding what appeared to be blood, the complaint states.
At an Oct. 13 news conference, Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso said investigators collected about 80 to 90 pieces of evidence from the room and were considering additional searches. He described the case as a "violent domestic tragedy."
Harrison was taken to a hospital for treatment. According to the complaint, she repeatedly said, "I'm not supposed to be here," "I f---ed up, I f---ed up" and "I just needed energy and strength."
The complaint also states that Harrison said she had tried to be the best mother and wife and that "it wasn't supposed to end like this."
When detectives later attempted to interview her after advising her of her Miranda rights, Harrison declined to speak, saying she was "suicidal, not stupid," according to the complaint.
What charges does Harrison face?
Harrison was charged with two counts of criminal homicide in connection with the deaths of her husband and son, according to police and court records.
As of Oct. 13, she was awaiting arraignment and the investigation remained ongoing.
Police said the deaths resulted from an isolated domestic incident and that there was no threat to the public. Monroe County Coroner Thomas Yanac said Oct. 13 that autopsies were expected later in the week.
