A powerful nor'easterdumped more than 2 inches of rain in parts of Long Island by Saturday afternoon and continued to bring coastal flooding, strong winds, power outages and travel disruptions across New York.
The latest precipitation reports from the National Weather Service office in Upton showed Long Beach in Nassau County with 2.27 inches of rain, the highest total reported in New York as of 3:12 p.m. Saturday. Other significant totals included 2.18 inches in Southold and 2.07 inches in Eastport, both in Suffolk County.
Additional reports included 1.88 inches in Ozone Park, Queens; 1.85 inches at the National Weather Service office in Upton; 1.69 inches in East Rockaway; and 1.31 inches at Brooklyn College.
Forecasters said the heaviest rain
was still expected Saturday night into Sunday. Forecasts called for storm totals of 2 to 4 inches across New York City and the lower Hudson Valley, with localized amounts of 4 to 6 inches possible on Long Island.

Coastal flooding remains a concern
Flooding has been one of the storm's most significant impacts.
Water levels rose more than 3 feet above normal high-tide levels in parts of New York Harbor during Saturday's high-tide cycle, and officials warned that additional coastal flooding could occur during subsequent high tides before the storm weakens and moves away.
Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency ahead of the storm, and coastal flood warnings remained in effect Saturday for parts of New York City, Long Island and nearby coastal communities.
The National Weather Service warned that periods of heavy rain, combined with strong winds and saturated ground, could lead to additional flooding of roads, low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage through Sunday.
New York City officials also warned residents about the potential for basement flooding, power outages and travel disruptions.
Flights, power outages affected by storm
The Federal Aviation Administration said weather conditions could cause delays at John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport as strong winds continue across the region.
According to PowerOutage.us data from Saturday afternoon, about 74,700 utility customers in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey were without electricity. That included approximately 33,800 outages in New York, 24,000 in Connecticut and 16,900 in New Jersey.
Air travel disruptions also mounted throughout the day. Reuters reported about 425 flights involving U.S. airports had been canceled and more than 1,300 delayed by Saturday afternoon because of the storm.
What comes next?
The National Weather Service expects rain, strong winds and coastal flooding concerns to continue into Sunday before conditions gradually improve. With many locations still forecast to receive additional rainfall, current totals are expected to climb before the nor'easter finally pulls away from the Northeast.
