A U.S. Postal Service employee was hospitalized and a suspect was taken into custody after a stabbing at the Carmel Post Office on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Stabbing reported at post office
Officers with the Carmel Police Department responded around 3 p.m. Thursday, July 30, to reports of an assault at the U.S. Post Office at 29 Fair St.
Police said officers arrived while the assault was still in progress and used a Taser to subdue the suspect, who was taken into custody without further incident.
The victim, a postal employee, suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken by private vehicle to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police say victim and suspect knew each other
Following a preliminary investigation, police determined the victim and suspect were acquainted.
Investigators said the stabbing appears to have been an isolated incident and there is no known threat to the community.
Investigation continues
Fair Street between Route 52 and Vink Drive was closed for about two hours while investigators processed the scene.
Police have not released the names of the victim or suspect. The suspect remains in custody, and criminal charges are pending.
