A 9-year-old boy was struck by a car in a crosswalk at an intersection in the village of Mamaroneck on Thursday, Oct. 22, police said.
The child did not sustain serious injuries but was taken to Westchester Medical Center for monitoring, according to village police.
Boy struck at Mamaroneck intersection
The crash happened around 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of Halstead and North Barry avenues, according to the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department.
Village Mayor Sharon Torres said in a Facebook post that the driver ran a red light and was issued a summons.
In a statement posted Sunday, Torres said the crash was a reminder for drivers to remain alert, obey traffic signals and yield to pedestrians.
“We get comfortable being behind the wheel, particularly where we live, and we need to
be more diligent,” Torres said.
Mamaroneck intersection has history of crashes involving children
The crash is the latest in a series of serious vehicle incidents involving children at village intersections in recent years.
In June 2024, a mother and her 6-year-old son were killed in a crash near a Mamaroneck elementary school after a bus failed to yield to a pedestrian walk signal, according to reports at the time.
In March 2026, a mother and her two children were struck by a car while crossing a street in the village, police said. They did not sustain major injuries.
Torres said a Village Board meeting scheduled for Monday at 5:15 p.m. would include an update from village police about Thursday’s crash and an opportunity to discuss the incident.
