The Game
Harrison (4-1) at Rye (4-2), 1:30 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 17
History: The rivalry began in 1929 and was suspended between 1934-36 due to '"hooliganism". No game was played in 2004 because of incompatible
league schedules.
Series: Rye has won two in a row and leads the series with a 51-44-3 record and is 20-3 in The Game since 2003.
What to expect: Rye was the favorite in this game right up to the minute that Super 11 quarterback Charlie Brady went down with a non-contact injury that ended his season four weeks in. Johnny Shoemaker is the starter now and he's coming off a big week. Neither of the sophomore quarterbacks has played under this kind of pressure. The Garnets have playmakers on defense, starting with Luke Denvir, but have given up 30-plus in losses to Clarkstown South and Somers. It comes down to tackling for Rye. Again. Always. The best player on the field is likely to be Harrison running back Jason Crupi. Getting him on the ground is challenging no matter how well prepared a defense is. Huskies quarterback T.J. Haynes and the offense need to play a clean game. Stay on the field. Keep the clock running.
The pick: Rye 23, Harrison 21

The Other Game
Riverdale Country School (2-2) at Hackley (2-2), 3 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 17
History: The rivalry began in 1925 and was paused in 1991 and 1992 and in 2020 due to COVID-19. Hackley forfeited a 2002 win.
Series: Riverdale won last season and Hackley won the two previous years. It's been highly competitive throughout. and the Hornets lead the series 51-46-2.
What to expect: There is usually some drama in this game. Both sides have suffered losses to Poly Prep and Rye Country Day, but the Riverdale setbacks came in one-possession games. Keep an eye on the running backs. Jackson Hallet-Brown is picking up 8.7 yards per carry for the Falcons and Will Ngbokoli is coming off a 253-yard effort for the Hornets.
The pick: Riverdale 27, Hackley 20

Marquee games
Friday, Oct. 16
Carmel (4-1) at Lakeland (4-2), 6 p.m.
Raise your hand if you had both of these teams in the Class A playoffs this year. Put your hand down if you live in either district. This is kind of a surprise. Both teams have some dramatic wins. Lakeland's only losses came against Section 1 championship contenders, Westlake and Somers. Carmel's lone setback came at home against Clarkstown North after starting quarterback Colin Sullivan left the game with an injury.
The pick: Lakeland 28, Carmel 23
Saturday, Oct. 17
North Rockland (4-2) at New Rochelle (4-1), 1 p.m.
Both teams were dealing with disappointment this week. North Rockland started 4-0, but has dropped two in a row to Mamaroneck and Arlington. It's not getting any easier this week or next. New Rochelle also rattled off four wins to open the season before suffering a setback last weekend at Mamaroneck. Keep an eye on the connection between Huguenots quarterback Malachi McFarlane and receiver Luke Zaccagnino. They could be the difference in this one.
The pick: New Rochelle 20, North Rockland 19
Pleasantville (5-1) at Bronxville (4-1), 2 p.m.
In all likelihood this is the game that will determine what jerseys these teams will wear when they meet again next month for the Class C title. Bronxville has not played under stress very much in the last two seasons and needs to be very careful here. The Broncos have the right mix of power and finesse, but Pleasantville is a stubborn bunch, especially on defense.
The pick: Bronxville 28, Pleasantville 21
