A Somers man who worked as a restaurant manager at a local golf club was arrested after State Police said he allegedly stole thousands of dollars in a series of incidents, including a burglary at the club.
David Chung, 37, was charged with second-degree burglary, a class C felony; second-degree criminal mischief, a class D felony; and third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony.
The investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Somers began in connection with several incidents at Somers National Golf Club.
Police say man collected $4,800 from 2 people
According to State Police, Chung obtained a combined $4,800 from two people on July 25.
Investigators said Chung told the individuals the money was needed to repair damage they had caused at Somers National Golf
Club, at 1000 West Hill Drive, before an event scheduled for the following day.
On July 26, State Police responded to the golf club after approximately $12,000 in business proceeds was reported missing.
Investigators identified Chung, who was employed as a restaurant manager at the club.
Police allege Chung burglarized clubhouse
Four days later, while the investigation was ongoing, State Police returned to the golf club for a reported burglary.
Investigators determined that Chung allegedly forced his way into the clubhouse during the early morning hours.
More than $2,600 in cash and checks was stolen, along with multiple golf bags containing clubs and other equipment valued at approximately $9,500, according to police.
Chung arrested in Somers
State Police arrested Chung Aug. 7 and charged him with burglary, criminal mischief and grand larceny.
He was arraigned and bail was set at $15,000 cash, a $30,000 bond or a $60,000 partially secured bond.
Chung is scheduled to return to Somers Town Court at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 10.
