A heat advisory has been extended for a fourth consecutive day across the New York City metro area, Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley as temperatures are expected to feel as high as 95 degrees Monday.
The National Weather Service extended the advisory through 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10.
Actual temperatures are expected to reach about 87 degrees, but the heat index — how hot it feels when humidity is factored in — could reach 95 degrees, forecasters said.
Thunderstorms also are possible Monday, just days after severe storms caused widespread flooding across the Lower Hudson Valley and parts of New York City. Forecasters expect Monday to be the final day of significant thunderstorm activity in the region this week.

How to stay safe during extreme heat
People 65 and older, along with those with certain chronic health conditions, face an increased risk of heat-related illness during periods of extreme heat.
Homes without air conditioning can become significantly hotter than outdoor temperatures. Health officials recommend seeking air-conditioned locations, including local cooling centers, when temperatures become dangerous.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends that outdoor workers take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas and drink plenty of water.

Monday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 87 degrees. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms from 2 to 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy overnight, with a low around 77 degrees. Showers and possible thunderstorms are likely.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86 degrees. Partly cloudy overnight, with a low near 74 degrees.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84 degrees. Partly cloudy overnight, with a low near 75 degrees.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85 degrees. Partly cloudy overnight, with a low near 72 degrees.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84 degrees. Partly cloudy overnight, with a low around 68 degrees.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82 degrees. Partly cloudy overnight, with a low around 68 degrees.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high in the low 80s.
